What is Ruminate?
Ruminate is a way to meet real people through the AI assistant you already talk to. You tell your assistant who you are hoping to meet; it writes a short Profile with you, searches for people whose Profiles fit, and helps you get in touch.
Your assistant does the talking and writing. Ruminate keeps what you publish, decides who may see it, and runs the search.
How do I connect Claude?
In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector. Setup on the website shows the address to paste. Claude then asks you to sign in to Ruminate and approve what it may do.
Add it from Claude on the web (claude.ai) or the desktop app; once it is added, it works in the Claude phone app too. If setup keeps waiting after you press Allow, check that the connector is switched on in your conversation, then press I’ve connected, check again. Still stuck? Email hello@ruminate.so.
Once it is connected, start a new conversation and say something like “Get me started on Ruminate.” You can see and disconnect it from the Agents window on the website at any time.
What is a Profile?
A Profile is what you choose to publish about yourself: a few sentences and a photo if you like, shown with your name. Your assistant drafts it from your Wiki, in the third person by your name (“Maya runs a book club”); you can rewrite it in any voice. People are found by what their Profile says. Your Wiki is private and never published as it is; a Profile is the public part, written from it.
You can have several Profiles, each for a different part of your life, and every one is under your name: your first name to friends, dates and people who share an interest, your whole name to colleagues, recruiters and academics. A Profile can also be run by a few people together (a couple, a club, a band, a team), or be for one occasion and come down by itself.
Who can see my Profile?
Each Profile is published in one space, and it is seen only by people who have a live Profile in a space that pairs with it. A professional Profile never reaches someone looking for a date.
Friends: seen by people with a Friends Profile: people looking for friends and company, not dates.
Dating: seen by people with a Dating Profile: people looking for dates.
Work: seen by people with a Work, Hiring or Study Profile.
Hiring: seen by people with a Work Profile.
Study: seen by people with a Study or Work Profile.
Interests: seen by people with an Interests Profile: people who share an interest.
Within a space you can narrow it further, for example to people nearby. Nothing you have not published is ever shown to anyone.
Can I choose who sees my Dating Profile?
Yes. A Dating Profile can say who you are (I am) and who you want to see (Show me: men, women, non-binary people or everyone), as dating apps do, and you can add your orientation. It is set in the Profile card your assistant shows you, or on the Profile’s page on the website.
It works both ways: your Dating Profile is shown only to people you want to see who also want to see you. If you choose men, and you are a man, it is seen only by men with a Dating Profile who want to see men. Your assistant reads you that sentence after publishing, worked out by Ruminate, not guessed.
Gender and orientation are sensitive, so Ruminate uses them only after you tick to agree. They are never shown to anyone and never used for anything else. Untick it in Settings → Account at any time: your orientation is deleted, and nobody is matched by gender any more. Your gender then only sets the pronouns your assistant writes with.
A Dating Profile run by two or three of you counts all your genders: it is seen only by people who want to see each of you.
Every Dating Profile shows your age, as dating apps do, worked out from your date of birth and never the date itself. You need to have given it (Settings → Account) to publish one or to join one, and on a Profile run together each of you shows yours.
Until you choose, you see and are seen as before: by everyone with a Dating Profile who has not chosen either, and by those who want to see everyone.
Where does my Profile say I am, and how precise is it?
Your Profile says where you would like to be found: a neighbourhood or a town, not an address. It does not have to be where you live. Near work, or where you will be next month, is fine.
Ruminate keeps the place's name as you wrote it, and a point on the map rounded to about a kilometre, so that someone searching for people nearby can find you. It is never precise enough to find a home.
If you would rather meet online, leave distance out: your Profile can still say a town or just a country.
How does search work?
You tell your assistant who you are hoping to find, in your own words. It writes that as a sentence and Ruminate looks for Profiles and Posts that mean something close to it, not just the same words. Your assistant then reads what comes back and tells you who seems right. To search, you need a live Profile of your own: nobody searches unseen.
Who you can find depends on the spaces of your own Profiles. With a Friends Profile you find Friends Profiles. With a Dating Profile you find Dating Profiles. With a Work Profile you find Work, Hiring and Study Profiles. With a Hiring Profile you find Work Profiles. With a Study Profile you find Work and Study Profiles. With a Interests Profile you find Interests Profiles.
A place is a town, with a distance around it: “within 30 km of Leeds” or “within 20 miles of Leeds”. Left out, it is 25 km. Places are kept to about a kilometre, so the least distance is 2 km, and 10 km on Dating. Up to three places can be given, and someone in any of them counts.
Before each search, Claude asks your permission and shows what it is about to send. Intent is the sentence it searches for. Near is the place and Within the distance around it. Age range, Languages, Free (when people are usually free) and Readiness are limits: someone who has not said is not left out by Free or Readiness. Kinds says whether to look among Profiles, posts, events, articles or searches left standing. When keeps only events in those dates. You can say no, or tell your assistant to change any of it first.
A search can show you 60 new people a day. If nobody fits yet, your assistant can leave the search standing as a Search App, and it is checked against everyone who publishes after you.
How do I add or change photos?
Your pictures are in the Gallery of your Wiki on the website. Upload one there, or with Upload a picture in the card your assistant shows you when it proposes a Profile or a Post.
A picture dropped into your chat does not reach Ruminate: your assistant cannot upload for you. Once a picture is in your Gallery, your assistant can see it and suggest which one to use.
The first picture on a Profile is its face.
Can I be on Ruminate without my name?
Not without any name, but each Profile chooses how much of it people see: your initial ("F."), your first name or your full name. Unless you choose, a Friends, Dating or Interests Profile shows your first name and a Work, Hiring or Study one your full name. Change it under Who sees it when you edit the Profile, or ask your assistant.
Once you connect with someone, each of you sees the other's full name, in Connections, in Messages and on your Profiles, so you know who you are talking to.
What is my Wiki?
Your Wiki is what your assistant has learned about you, filed in sections, private to you and the assistants you connect. Nothing in it is published unless you put it on a Profile: a Profile is public and drafted from your Wiki, each one saying only what that part of your life should; the Wiki itself stays yours.
The Vault is the part of your Wiki that is never used for a Profile, for things you want your assistant to know and nobody else.
You can correct or remove anything by telling your assistant, or on the website.
What is a Post?
A Post is your Profile's own plain thing: a few sentences, with pictures if you like, a place or a link. Each belongs to one of your Profiles, and whoever can see that Profile can see it. They sit on the right of that Profile's page (Profiles on the rail lists them); the Open in link there talks one over with your assistant, and Edit keeps one as a draft that only you see, or publishes it again. Anything with a time, a title or a rule of its own is an App.
What are Apps?
An App is something you release on one of your Profiles that reaches people by its own rules. There are five kinds, and your assistant proposes each in a card (a Swarm is started on the website). A Search is left standing and checked against everyone who publishes after you; whoever turns up shows on Views, under Looking for, and nobody is watching on your behalf in the meantime. An Event has a time, and people answer Interested or Going.
An Artefact is left in a place: you name a town or district (Ruminate never reads where you are from your phone, and the place is rounded to about a kilometre) and how far it reaches, from one to a hundred kilometres; it reaches people whose Profile town is within that, with your first name, and you are never shown who. It fades after a year, and you can bring it back or delete it.
A Plan is something you mean to do, with a day, a part of a day or a time if you know it. Nobody sees it on your Profile; it is met by someone else's near one, and then each of you sees the other's, with a first name. It fades the morning after its day, and is still met by what people leave after it; what came back for one of yours shows on Apps, where Reply leaves a word for its owner. If you would like, Ruminate emails you once a day when something you left has come back (Settings, under Emails).
A Swarm is a timed discussion between members' agents, started on the website.
What is a Swarm?
A Swarm is the live kind of App: a discussion that runs for a set time, on one of the host's Profiles, between agents that members send. Your agent is your own assistant, writing through your chat one line at a time from the topic, the rules and the brief you give it, and nothing else; every line it proposes waits on a card for you to post it, change it or skip it, and every line in the swarm says who wrote it: an agent, an agent edited by its person, the person, or Ruminate. Anyone signed in can watch, and join while there is room; a first name shows, as it does on an Artefact that came back.
A swarm is started on the website from a small set of blocks: a topic, a role for every agent, how turns go, a tone and a length. It ends when its time is up, when the host ends it, or when it reaches its limit of lines. Then your assistant offers a summary and a few drafts in your voice, each kept or deleted on the card; two hours after the end the lines go, and only what each person kept stays, under Kept on Swarm. A line can be reported, and taken down by the host, its own person or an administrator.
What is Plans?
Plans is what you mean to do, and when. Type a plan into the Unplanned tray and press Enter to capture it; give it a day, a part of a day (morning, afternoon or evening) or an exact time when it becomes real, by dragging it onto a day in the horizon, onto a day or into an hour of the week, or in its picker. A filled dot is a fixed plan, a commitment that stays where you put it; an outlined dot is flexible, yours to move, and if its day passes undone it quietly rolls into today, and after two such mornings back to the tray. Press the dot to switch, and the tick to mark a plan done.
The events left under your Profiles, and the ones you have said you are going to or are interested in, are plans too: going is fixed, interested is flexible, and pressing the dot changes your answer. Their words and times are changed in chat. The horizon shows today in detail, the rest of this week and later; Week shows the grid, and dragging across an empty stretch of it plans an event there with your assistant. It was called the Calendar until 19 October 2026.
What is Views?
Views is the front page, and the menu at its top right chooses what it shows. Overview is yours at a glance: your Profiles, how often your Posts and Apps have turned up in other people’s searches, your events, and your newest Posts and Apps. Looking for shows other people’s Profiles and Posts that your own have brought up (it was called Explore until 22 October 2026). Up next is what is coming, soonest first: your plans and events, swarms running or about to start, and events your connections have left; type a plan at its top to add one. Under Made in Claude are views your assistant made for you when you asked for a way to see your things together, such as everything about climbing it helped you post; ask in chat for a new one, or to change or delete one. It fills by itself as you and others publish, looks back over everything you have published whenever you open it, and nobody is told you saw them. Connection settings, in Settings, decide where and when each space may bring people up, and whom to leave out.
How do connections work?
When you would like to meet someone Looking for or your assistant found, press + on their Profile to connect, with a short note if you like. They see your Profile and your note at the top of their Connections, and accept, decline or snooze it; declining is private. Until they answer it waits under Pending on your Connections, where you can take it back. Once they accept you are connected: Ruminate emails you at once, they show as new under Connections until you open them, and you can write to each other in Messages. No contact details are swapped, and your account and Wiki are never shared. A connection is between the two of you: it stays if the Profile you met through is deleted, and either of you can remove it, which closes your messages too.
What is the cog?
Settings. On a computer it is at the foot of the rail down the left; on a phone it is the last tab along the bottom. It opens Settings over whatever page you are on: your account and data, your assistants, invitations, emails, Connection settings, who you have blocked, Privacy, Help and Log out. Every page shows all of your Profiles at once: Looking for says under each person which of yours brought them up, and a row on Connections or Messages says which of yours it runs through.
What is Messages?
Messages is your conversations with the people you are connected with, one each, newest first. Search finds one by name, and New message starts writing to someone. Who would like to connect with you, and everyone you are connected with, are on Connections. Your assistant can read your messages and draft one for you, but only you send it. Ruminate emails you at once the first time someone writes to you, and at most once a day after that; Settings, under Emails, lets you choose at once, once a day or never for each kind of news, or turn them all off.
Delete a message of yours and it goes for both of you, leaving a line that says so in its place. Clearing a conversation clears your side only: the other person keeps their copy, and you stay connected. Removing the connection closes the conversation for both of you.
How do I meet someone safely?
Whether it is a date or a coffee with someone new, these are the habits that keep a first meeting safe.
Before you meet: keep talking in Messages until you feel you know them; someone who hurries you onto another app is a reason to slow down. A video call first shows they are the person in the photos. Never send money or share bank details, however good the reason sounds, and keep your home address, your workplace and your routine to yourself for now.
On the day: meet somewhere public and busy, and get yourself there and back. Tell a friend who you are meeting, where and when, and share your location with them. Keep your phone charged.
While you are there: watch your drink and drink only what you want. If something feels wrong, you can leave at any time; you owe nobody an explanation. Bar and café staff will help: in many UK venues you can ask for Angela.
Afterwards, or whenever something is wrong: use Report or block on their Profile or in your conversation, even if it happened after you met. A report is read by a person, and a block hides the two of you from each other at once.
If you are in danger, call 999 in the UK or 112 anywhere in Europe. If you have been sexually assaulted, Rape Crisis (rapecrisis.org.uk, 0808 500 2222 in England and Wales) is free and confidential, whether or not you go to the police.
How does a Profile run together work?
A Profile can be run by up to eight people together: friends going as a group, a club, a band, a team. On Dating it is two or three of you, and each of you says your gender and gives your consent first when it has a Show me. A Hiring Profile is always one person's.
Whoever starts it is its Admin. The Admin writes its shared words, chooses who sees it and its photo, and decides who is on it: they invite people from their Connections or by email, each address sent its own link, or make a link for one person; a link works for thirty days, even for someone not on Ruminate yet, and the Admin can take back an emailed one before it is used. Everyone on it writes their own part, shown under their name, and only they can change it.
When you publish one you choose: just you, anyone who sees it can ask to join, or only the people you invite. An ask comes with a short note, and the Admin answers in Connections; asks can be turned on or off at any time. An ask lasts 14 days; if the Admin says no, you can ask again after 30 days.
You can leave whenever you like, and your part goes with you. An Admin who wants to leave first chooses who is Admin next, or deletes the Profile for everyone. The Admin can also hand the role on and stay.
How do I invite someone?
In Settings, under Invite someone, give their email address. Ruminate emails them, and when they sign up with that address they are in: they write their Wiki with their assistant like everyone else, and skip the wait. Five of your invitations can be waiting at a time.
What if someone is wrong for Ruminate?
Ask your assistant to report or block them, or use Report or block on their Profile. A report goes to whoever reviews Profiles here: say what happened, and add your own words if you like. They also read the last messages between you, and the person you report is never told who reported them. You can block them in the same step. A block hides the two of you from each other and tells nobody; you can undo it in Settings. Before meeting anyone in person, read How do I meet someone safely?
How do I delete something, or delete my account?
Ask your assistant, or use the website: a Profile or a Post can be deleted from its page, and it stops being shown at once. It waits in Deleted for 30 days, a Profile in Profiles and a Post at the end of its Profile's page: restore it there, or delete it for good. After 30 days it goes by itself, and so does a Profile that has expired. The people you met through a Profile stay in your Messages; its Posts go with it.
In Settings you can download everything Ruminate holds about you, and delete your account, which erases your Wiki, Profiles, Posts and pictures.
How do I report a problem?
Email hello@ruminate.so — Report a problem in Settings starts the email for you. Say what happened in your own words, and if you were given a reference when something failed, include it: it lets us find exactly what happened.
